The Brit Awards… A fantastic celebration of homegrown and international talent. Metropolis’ involvement with winning and nominated artists at the 2015 Brit Awards has been exceptional, and everybody here at the Chiswick Power House is delighted, to say the least, with the results of yesterday evening.
Our very own Mastering engineer, Stuart Hawkes, is having a cracking start to the year. Stuart received praise for his contributions to Sam Smith’s international best selling debut, In The Lonely Hour. The album’s success led to Smith picking up two Brits for best British Breakthrough and the Global Success Award. This is on top of four Grammy Awards won earlier in the year.
Ed Sheeran’s X, also mastered by Mr Hawkes, was very highly celebrated, picking up a Brit Award for British Album Of The Year with the man himself winning British Male Solo Artist. Sheeran – an alumnus of Metropolis’ Academy partner The Academy Of Contemporary Music – has dominated the charts both at home and abroad, achieving multi-platinum sales here in the UK. It’s fair to say that Stuart Hawkes is a man in high demand and trusted by the best.
The Brit Award for best British Group went to a band that received the Metropolis Mastering treatment. The debut self-titled album from Royal Blood, mastered by John Davis, landed the band their first UK Number One – testament to their now Best British Group status.
Paloma Faith put the cherry on top of a fabulous year, picking up best British Female Solo Artist. Paloma has a long standing association with Metropolis. A Perfect Contradiction, mastered by John Davis, has since sold twice platinum, whilst her vocals on Sigma’s track Changing (that went straight to number one!) were recorded in Studio E.
