Metropolis has launched a full service publishing division as the company celebrates 25 years in business.
Metropolis Music Publishing will be helmed by former Imagem Publishing executive Rupert Hollier, (pictured, left).
It has already secured its first film supervision deal, with the new Martin Scorsese Presents film, Tomorrow, with several other projects “in the pipeline”.
Ian Brenchley (pictured, right), CEO of Metropolis, hailed the launch as the “final part of the transition of Metropolis into a full service music company.”
Alongside publishing, Metropolis also encompasses recording studios, mastering, productions and artist services.
Said Brenchley: “We now have an unrivalled culture that spans music creation, recording, mixing, mastering, production and distribution. Our culture is all about harnessing those opportunities and putting the artist first, from songwriting to mixing and mastering. Our environment is a creative one and we really believe this will lead to an exciting next chapter in our history with Ru at the helm”.
Hollier, who served as film synchronisation manager at Imagem for almost five years, joins Metropolis Music Publishing as creative director, overseeing all operational and creative output.
Discussing Hollier’s appointment, Brenchley added: “Having worked with Ru on previous projects it seemed like the perfect fit when the opportunity came up to work together. As an executive across both the film and music landscapes, he really is without equal.”
Metropolis Music Publishing is made up of administration, A&R, sync and supervision. The division has a ‘robust’ back room team, accounting on a quarterly basis, and will monitor every performance of its film and TV productions in the US and in Canada.
Hollier commented: “Metropolis is an institution and it’s significance to pop history but also its commitment to embracing change is something that really excites me. As a small, adaptive team, we are able to offer a point of difference, and our ancillary values always ensure it’s about the artist, providing the resources for our acts to flourish, not only in sync, but also in terms of collaborations and songwriting camps.
We work in an incredibly diverse and flexible way across film and TV sync, providing not only supervision services, but score funding and soundtrack release. We want to represent stand out artists in their space – it is not about chasing volume but maximizing each and every opportunity for our clients.”
Over its 25 years in existence, artists including Queen, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, U2, One Direction, Madonna, Justin Bieber and The Clash have recorded at Metropolis’ West London studios.
