Single-handedly bringing RnB revival to the jazz scene, Poppy Ajudha’s silky, soul-infused cuts have seen nothing but blistering success since her inception. 2017 was her breakthrough year, which saw the release of her hit track, Spilling into You ft. Kojey Radical, a sold-out debut headline show and a House of Holland campaign.
Now, 2018 looks set to measure up. Her latest EP, FEMME, is as tactfully soothing and utterly devastating as always. Steeped in jazz improvisation and a songwriting ability that can’t be learnt, the five songs sail effortlessly through bustling instrumentals, with sultry lows and a powerful confidence in the stripped back production steering her towards perfection. Every bar is a lesson.
She’s joined by Hak Baker; describing his sound as G-folk, he blends the beats of hip hop with the strums of indie-folk. Originally securing rave reviews as part of grime collective Bomb Squad, Hak Baker found his fit in guitar grooves, where he felt his style was at it’s most sincere.
